We sat down with Yinon Costica, Co-Founder and VP of Product at Wiz, a G Squared portfolio company and the fastest growing software company ever. Here are some highlights from that conversation:
Wiz’s ability to engage with development teams is a key differentiator; this allows value in adoption. What drives Wiz is the simplicity, the clear prioritization. The other tools that exist, such as those from big players like Palo Alto, Microsoft, and the like, continue to add more components. The difference is in our ability to build a security graph that connects the dots and delivery to teams outside of security.
The ability to democratize security is a key evolutionary step in cloud security. Initially, products were intended only for security teams – scanners that delivered an output, usually with thousands and thousands of findings. While that serves some compliance requirements, it doesn’t drive an action, and I think that the ability to combine signals from multiple different scanner tools into something that is clearly prioritized and drives to an action was the first evolution of the market. Moving from a bunch of siloed tools operating separately to one platform that takes the signals and correlates them to a single list of vulnerabilities to drive action was what gave rise to the Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP).
Once this happens, you have an opportunity to engage with the business and development teams to show them what “good” and “bad” look like. You have context, you have accuracy. When it comes to dealing with the cloud, there isn’t a security team that can do the work for the entire organization – it doesn’t exist. It would require immense resources and expertise that are simply not available. This is the beginning of the democratization process, which creates a culture of ownership.
In the CNAPP market, innovation never stops. Any organization, even through a tough economic climate, will find ways to innovate, be more efficient, and be more competitive in the market. Not only can Wiz standardize many different siloed tools, but it actually drives efficiencies that create value. Because the cloud is expanding, the need for security is not diminishing, and now we see massive AI adoption which creates additional demand because you have to secure these AI environments. The fact that we are in an uncertain economic climate only encourages bad actors – we need to be prepared. We are seeing a lot more regulation and awareness. Organizations can do much more with Wiz built into their organization. This is what is driving the continued adoption of Wiz; why we are continuously growing.
